Camping, bivouacking
There are many beautiful places in the Vanoise which may seem perfect for camping.

Refuge de l'Arpont
And yet nature is particularly vulnerable in these places. A tent crushes the vegetation and degrades the environment, and without sanitary facilities, campers pollute these sensitive places. The park has thus forbidden camping in the central zone except under precisely defined conditions.

In the proximity of certain refuges*, camping may be tolerated:

- between 1 July and 31 August;
- for small tents only;
- between 7 p.m. and 7a.m.
This camping is under the control of the refuge warden; a fee is charged and campers may use the toilet facilities.

Outside the park, in places where camping is not forbidden by by-laws, permission of the landowner is still necessary. Certain village by-laws limit camping to certain well-defined areas (Bonneval-sur-Arc, Peisey-Nancroix amongst others).

* Refuges in the central zone where camping is tolerated: le Fond d'Aussois, la Dent Parrachée, l'Arpont, la Glière, la Femma, la Leisse, le col du Palet, la Valette, les Lacs Merlet and le Fond des Fours.

If you want to camp in the mountains, there are two solutions: ·
- in the central zone of the park, camp near a designated refuge, observing the conditions noted above; ·
- outside the central zone of the park, in a place where camping is not prohibited, ask the owner for permission.
