Missions

The national park is a public establishment: the nation has entrusted the management of a protected natural zone with a surface area of 53000 hectares to the park's administrative body.

Environmental protection: this requires an inventory and a of knowledge of the species in the park as well as a clear management plan for the conservation of especially sensitive, rare and threatened species.

Welcoming and informing the public: the national park is a site for discovering and enjoying the natural environment. 600 km of paths and more than forty refuges are available to visitors. By welcoming and informing these visitors, the park also hopes to set an example for environmentally friendly behaviour, in the Vanoise region and beyond.

Participation in local development: the park's financial contributions and actions are primarily linked to preserving the quality of the Vanoise sites and landscapes and to enhancing its cultural heritage. It also aims at maintaining traditional activities, primarily agriculture, of the region.
